Vision
By 2011, in our implementation areas, all school-aged children in child-headed households (<18 years) will be in school (or NCP) and have access to a supportive community network to facilitate emotional well-being, good health and safety.
Mission
To contribute to Swaziland’s initiatives in strengthening protective domestic, school and community environments for OVC with special emphasis on child headed households.
Strategies
To realise her mission Moya will:
- Work with partners in government, civil society and community groups to capacitate community duty bearers for children.
- Facilitate capacity strengthening of school managers and teachers in collaboration with Ministry of Education, development partners and local NGOs.
- Provide direct support to child headed households.
- Facilitate links of child headed households with community service providers
Goals and Objectives
- To strengthen community capacity for provision and monitoring of protective environments for children in CHH.
- Facilitate CHH links with neighbouring churches
- Facilitate CHH links with local leadership
- Facilitate neighbourhood mentorship for CHH
- Facilitate CHH links with local field extension officers (agriculture and home economics)
- Facilitate CHH links with RHMs, local clinic and LL
- Facilitate CHH links with Police, Community Police and LL
- To strenghthen capacity of school managers and teachers for effective management of school resources, participatory school planning and to implement and institutionalise child friendly approaches in their teaching and interactions with children.
- Train school committees and teachers on participatory school planning and budgeting
- Sensitize teachers and school committees on OVC issues and child abuse
- Support formation of school health clubs including teacher training on lifeskills facilitation
- Train teachers, students and communities to establish school feeding programmes including school food gardens and crops
- Support schools to access clean water
- Support schools to ensure adequate sanitation facilitation facilities for girls and boys
- Train teachers to implement child friendly school programme
- To ensure safety, adequate shelter, clean water and sanitation, strenghthen lifeskills for adequate food, healthcare and emotional well-being.
- Conduct needs assessment for CHH
- Ensure all CHH have domestic access to adequate nutrition, clean water and sanitation
- Facilitate that CHH are able to access government OVC grant
- Provide uniform and necessary learning materials (and bus fare where necessary)
- Facilitate access to psycho-social support and healthcare to CHH
- Provide lifeskills education including survival skills
Reporting arrangements
There will be quarterly reports posted on the web and Annual Reports will be produced as well as posted on the web.
Donor reports will be produced at the end of November of each year or according to donor specifications.
Funding
Funding for Moya programmes is solicited through proposals and a variety of advocacy activities. Funding sources include individual donors, multi-lateral organisations and charity groups. Audited financial statements are produced on an annual basis by registered, reputable firm of auditors – Kobla Quashie and Associates.
Staffing
Moya Centre is currently staffed by a Director and Programme Co-ordinators (2) who provide professional leadership in the implementation of projects. Support staff provide basic services such as child care, health care and psycho-social support and an agricultural trainer who supports Agriculture projects. Moya has access to a pool of in-country Education consultants (university lecturers, school inspectors, educational managers) as well as international volunteers.
